Sonography test helps in female radiologist movements during procedures like Biopsies.
The overall procedure is considerably short. You should ask your doctor about your doubts if any, before the procedure. Your doctor may ask you about the medicines you take regularly or OTC drugs you are prescribed with. For abdominal organs like Pancreas, Spleen, Liver, etc., you may be told to eat a fat-free meal the evening before you undergo the diagnosis and fast until the test.
For most of the ultrasound exams, you will be told to lay face-up on an exam table that can be tilted or moved.
After you take the desired position on the examination table, the radiologist or sonographer will apply a warm water-based gel to the area of the body under study. The gel will help the transducer make secure contact with the body and eliminate air gaps between the transducer and the skin which can block the sound waves from passing into your body. The transducer is placed on the body and moved over the area of interest until the desired images are captured.
There is no discomfort from pressure as the transducer is only pressed against the area being examined. However, if scanning is performed over an area of tenderness, you might feel some pressure or minor pain from the transducer.
Doppler Sonography is also performed using the same transducer.
Young children may need to be sedated in rare cases in order to hold still for the procedure.
Once the process is complete, the sonography gel will be wiped off your skin. Any portions that are not wiped off will dry up quickly. With the help of the diagnosis, further results are deduced and a line of treatment is designed.
